Hi Unifacers,

we are repetitively receiving from endUsers these requests about Uniface grid:
- changing grid background color
- after retrieving some data programmatically adapting ALL columns size to its content size
I've browsed into documentation without finding a clue about them.
Is there a way to accomplish them?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Regards,
Gianni

      Hi Knut,

      Thanks for your feedback.

I am also trying new things, almost daily, very often in the evening...often up to late hours!

      About your suggestion:
it's an interesting option for new applications; unfortunately it is by far less interesting for existing customers having already many Uniface grids stabilized in their application.

      Regards,
      Gianni

        Hi Gianni,

Well, sometimes we have to cross the river to collect the water.... (poorly translated from Norwegian!)

(or - there are many ways to skin a cat...)

In the past, I've used the html widget and implemented the jquery widget jqgrid.  With CSS styling, you should be able to do virtually everything you'd like to do...  Of course, it also depends on the size of the dataset - however I've tried it with more than 10,000 records...

George Mockford (I believe) had a demo using 'slickgrid' - it's on github/SlickGrid.

Good luck (I'm also looking at some other options - might come back to you on those if they work).

        Regards,

        Knut

          Hi Ingo,

thanks for your feedback. I understand the position you described...I always have, have had, had... but:
small things solutions are those things letting us working on the field gaining daily trust from Uniface customers and Uniface endUsers. We always do (apply addendums, patches, workarounds, ...) whenever possible but from time to time we feel a simple request is a too steep obstacle to overcome.

I got complains from the market and I've reported them because I felt I cannot solve them by myself:
          - Uniface grid is one of the few Uniface widgets without a background property.
          - Smart users criticize us with "Come on: Uniface is not able to programmatically do what Excel can do in a single VBA line (ThisWorkbook.Worksheets(ActiveSheet.Name).Cells.EntireColumn.AutoFit)?"

Simplifying: I've asked how to defend my professionality together with Uniface trust in the market.

I understand needs for a stable roadmap but often a journey needs to deviate from the main road to discover hidden gems on the territory...because of this I still hope to get an hint / a suggestion / an answer.

Remember: without a stable body the best wings cannot let us fly in the long future.

          Cheers to all Unifacers,
          Gianni

P.S. I am a motor fan: yesterday was 25th anniversary of Ayrton death. Senna died because in a car costing hundred thousands (whatever currency you like) the steering column costing few hundreds bucks collapsed.

            Hi Gianni

If I understand the roadmap of UnifAce right, there will no further developing into the "classic" surface.
And the GRID-widget is a classic one.
If you have good connection to the lab, maybe the will make an exception for you (and us) (smile)
But this will happen for sure only at doomsday (sad)

            Ingo
